After living in Ohio, Indiana and Florida, Catherine Jarrett came to Colorado with her family in 1965. She is the oldest of eight children and helped care for her siblings when she was young. She was chosen as Colorado's representative to the 1967 National Youth Conference on Mental Retardation. Catherine graduated from Arvada High School and earned a scholarship to the University of Colorado. There she earned a bachelor's degree while continuing to volunteer in various capacities.

Catherine held several different jobs. She taught homebound children, worked as an ambulance attendant and driver, and provided educational services to mentally retarded adults in an institutional setting. Then Catherine returned to college to earn a master's degree in Special Education, and in 1979 began working with children who were considered educationally handicapped in the St. Vrain Valley School District. Except for one year of full time graduate studies, she was employed as a teacher for the school district until retirement in 2001 following a medical leave of absence due to a series of spine surgeries.

During the 1980's Catherine enjoyed helping friends who were home schooling their children. Later she began to attend the Christian Home Educators of Colorado conferences to learn more about home schooling and educational techniques that could be used with her students.

She was elected to the Board of Directors of Twin Peaks Charter Academy where she served as its secretary. After one and a half
years of intensive work, the school opened its doors to over 400 students in 1997. This year many of the children who began as kindergartners nine years ago graduated from eighth grade.

She has been a precinct committee person, district captain, member of the county executive committee and an election judge. In recent years she has been a poll watcher for early voting and an election worker at the county office.

After two years of increasing good health and considerable thought, Catherine has decided to enter this race. As a retired person she has the time to work hard to win this seat in the Colorado House of Representatives. Once there, she can vote to protect life, to support parent's rights to control the education of their own children, for fiscal responsibility and for the rule of law.
