Ken is the Republican candidate for House District 22, located in Southwest Metro Denver roughly between Jewell on the north and Bowles on the south, and C-470 on the west and Wadsworth to Sheridan on the east.
He is running for a hotly contested seat where the Democratic candidate, a single, middle school teacher in Jefferson County, is receiving the support of the Public Education community. As he is replacing a stalwart Home Schooling advocate in outgoing House Representative Matt Knoedler, the seat is critical to the objectives of the Home Schooling community. This seat was a targeted race two years ago, and is shaping up to be a vital race once again.
He is a Colorado native where he graduated from Englewood High School, subsequently graduated from UNC in 1976 with a degree in Business Education after which he served as teacher and coach at Englewood High, and finally entered full-time ministry, now having served as Sr. Pastor at Dakota Ridge Assembly of God church in Littleton for the past 14 years. In 2005, he earned his graduate degree from Regis University in Nonprofit Management.
He enjoys the endorsement of Rep. Matt Knoedler, as well as former Rep. Rob Fairbank, Senator Norma Anderson and Congressman Tom Tancredo, and he won the top line nomination from a field of five candidates at a special District 22 Assembly in April.
Candidate Summers has served on the local school board, as a volunteer chaplain for the National Guard, on boards of nonprofit organizations, a precinct chair and as the So. Jeffco Rotary Club president. In 2005, he founded Jericho Road Mentoring, a nonprofit which recruits mentors for children of prisoners.
He is married to his wife of 30 years, Debbie, and has two adult children serving either directly or indirectly in ministry.
