Talking The Talk and Walking The Walk
By
Justin Everett
Republican Candidate for State Senate District 22 in South Jefferson County
"Talking the talk" and "Walking the walk" are two different things. Before the election, candidates tell us what we want to hear, professing to support conservative traditional, American values. But once elected, they turn their backs.
"Walking the walk" is a more difficult task and it's demonstrated by actions, not words BEFORE the election.
I have been helping Republican candidates get elected for 14 years now. And I am very frustrated by what I have seenand you should be as well. Enough is enough. We need to help elect candidates who have proven they support our values and have demonstrated that support before the election. In my experience, this is the best predictor of what they will do in office.
I am a candidate for State Senate in District 22. No other candidate in this race has done more to help the home schooling community.
Many of you who attended the CHEC Conference this year may have noticed my banner and table. I was the only candidate in my race who was there. During slow traffic times, I went to the atrium and helped collect signatures for Kevin Lundberg's Protecting Colorado Children ballot initiative. I was pleased to be able to spend so much time with folks who share common values and are concerned about the nature and quality of children's education-parents who "walk the walk" by spending their valuable time educating their own children.
But my commitment to homeschooling didn't start this year.
In 2005, I wrote a strategic plan for the HEARTH Fund to help organize Homeschoolers to be more politically active and help elect candidates who best represent our values.
At the 2005 CHEC Day at the Capitol, I handed out a brochure (Designed by Rep. Kevin Lundberg and myself) promoting the HEARTH Fund.
Last year, at the 2005 CHEC Conference, I was there promoting the HEARTH Fund. Protecting Homeschoolers from an overreaching government is an important issue to me.
So why is this election so important? With the democrats in control of the Colorado Legislature, we are playing defense. The democrats want to take away our freedoms and enter our living rooms to tell us how to educate our children. We need legislators that we can TRUST to defend the right to educate our children as we see fit.
This is about more than running for office this is about fighting for the values we all share. My record demonstrates that I will NOT turn my back on values when the going gets tough.
This election year is exactly like all of the others. You have a chance to help elect a candidate that represents your valuesa chance to help elect a candidate that has fought for our values, a candidate the not only "Talks the Talk" but also "Walks the walk". I would truly value your support in this election.
